Why This Truck Driver Is Quitting After 3 Months

There could be one of many reasons why a driver may want to leave your company to go work for somebody else. I’m going to share with you one of the common mistakes to avoid that trucking companies makes when hiring drivers.

I have a quick story to share with you! I’ve got a good friend of mine named Devon, who’s a truck driver for many years and he called me yesterday to tell me he’s looking for another job.

It’s a job he started 3 months ago and he was grateful for the opportunity to work especially during the pandemic. I asked him, “why are you leaving?”, and “what’s wrong with the job you’re doing right now?”

He replied “I was unaware of what type of work I’m currently doing and I’m not happy with it”.

    So my question to you:

    • Are you properly interviewing your drivers?
    • Are you explaining the job description that they’re very clear of what to expect?

If not, you’ll surprise the driver when they come on duty and that’s not going to be a good look for you because most likely the driver will be spreading the news about your company to somebody else just like what he did to me.

Devon, also he mentioned that he didn’t get proper training to do the work at all.

Are you properly training your drivers to get the job done as how you want?

If not, then they’re not going to feel as confident to get your job done and especially on time to serve your customers.

If you want a driver to stick around you have to be upfront with them. Don’t sugarcoat anything. Just be real, and be honest.

The truth is, if you hide something particular that a driver should know and they figured it out after a month or two down the road, then they’ll be thinking, Hmm! What else are they hiding from me?

That’s not a good thing, and then that will give them a reason to go and look for another job because they don’t trust you anymore.

    Have an amazing day!
